Knowing that the real estate market in NYC moves extremely fast, my girlfriend and I decided that we needed to consider help from a broker in order to have the best shot at listings. We found Next Step Realty and the rest is history. It was a very convenient process overall. A representative from the office sets up time for a quick call to ask for all of your preferences, budget, etc. Then, the process is very simple: 1) you get paired with a broker; 2) go out on apartment showings; 3) decide on your apartment and that's it!
Okay... it sounds really quick in the grand scheme, but that's because our agent played a crucial part in the process. We were paired with Katie Cummings and we can't thank Katie enough for her extensive knowledge of the market and advice/tips during our apartment search. She asked all the right questions, and set up multiple showings on a day that worked with our busy schedules. After the showings, Katie brought us back to the Next Step office to help us narrow down our apartment choices. She was extremely professional, but we have to mention that it felt more like a friend helping us with this big step in our lives than someone who you just hire to "get the job done". This really made us feel comfortable and solidified the idea that Next Step and all of its staff are doing something right! You also cannot beat the broker fee, which is much lower than the average rate. Again, Katie was amazing, and really pushed to get us the apartment we wanted for a price that was better for us by negotiating with the listing agent. She was even there on the lease signing day and organized everything.
We really recommend Next Step Realty and Katie to anyone who is searching for an apartment in the city!

Extremely helpful with the apartment search after my girlfriend and I relocated from the west coast. We didn't know the city at all and didn't know what to expect. Margit was our realtor and she represents the highest professional standard. She was always available for consultation and helping to solve problems throughout the entire process. I am relocating from California for work and a couple of my coworkers had used Next Step in their relocations as well. I worked with Katie who was absolutely great to work with. She asked me a few questions about what I was looking for and responded to all my questions really quickly, even when they were emailed over pretty late for Eastern time. I only had a day for viewings and Katie lined up some really great places that fit what I was looking for. In between viewings, Katie told me about the area, as well as helped me really figure out what I liked and didn't like about the various apartments. When I found a place I really liked, she helped me with all the necessary paperwork and helped me land the place when we found that someone else had also made an offer for the apartment. I had a great experience and would (and already have) recommended Next Step to other people moving to New York.

I recently moved from the Midwest to NY to start a job at a law firm. I am not from a large city and was overwhelmed by the prospect of a search. Next Step, Michelle specifically, was amazing.

My friend and I graduated this past spring knowing we would have to find an apartment in NYC before our jobs started in September. I could not recommend Next Step more highly. The whole process was seamless, from requesting an appointment and getting matched with our broker, Jordan, to our morning of viewings. Jordan had a call with us a couple weeks before our appointment to figure out what we were looking for and he really nailed it. We saw half a dozen apartments in about two hours, and Jordan was really great about talking through the pros and cons of each. Once we picked our apartment, Jordan walked us through the application process and was super responsive and on top of any follow-ups.
This was our first time using a broker and our easiest apartment hunt and move by far. We loved working with Next Step (and especially Jordan)!

Transferring over from the UK, I had never worked with a broker before and did not know what to expect. Also being in a new city, I wanted to make sure I found the right place to settle down. Next Step couldn’t have been better. Over our initial phone call, Meena asked me numerous questions as to what I was looking for, location, what I wanted in a property and what I absolutely did not – I had a very clear idea of what I was looking for but was very flexible on location. With that in mind, Meena and the team drove me all over town and had really listened to my specifics. I was so impressed with the options they provided and the thoroughness with which Next Step researched the properties.
The other issue I had was that as an international relocation, my US paperwork and credit rating were very weak but Meena worked incredibly hard to make sure my credentials weren’t a problem and was very diligent in making sure we had everything we needed for a prospective landlord.
All their hard work paid off. I’m now settled in the perfect flat and perfect location. It was a great experience and if were I to move again, I would undoubtedly go back to Next Step. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough!!
